Hi! I am Xuandi Wang, a freelance writer and policy researcher. I grew up in Zhejiang, China, and am currently based in Chicago as a policy fellow with Cook County.

I’m passionate about issues on economic development and its discontent. My writings on urban affairs, environmental governance, and labor organizing have appeared in South Side Weekly, Chicago Reader, Block Club Chicago, Eater, The Baffler, In These Times, Sixth Tone, and more.

I was part of the team that received The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) award ('23) in environmental reporting for a series of articles investigating China’s meat consumption. For an essay on the activism history behind Beijing's first gay bar, I received the National LGBTQ+ Journalists (NLGJA)'s Excellence in International Coverage award ('22). I was also a finalist in The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) award ('22) for reporting on the heavy rain in Zhengzhou that killed more than 300 people.

I graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in history. I speak Mandarin Chinese, English, and some Spanish.
